Ayurveda, is the oldest surviving holistic science of healing and wellness. It is estimated to have originated over 6,000 years ago, recorded in ancient scriptures and passed down for generations.
The word Ayurveda is derived from the ancient Sanskrit words ‘ayu' meaning 'life' and ‘veda' meaning 'knowledge'. This science or knowledge of healing, as mentioned in the Rig Veda, was revealed to Rishi Bharadvaja from the great Cosmic Intelligence. It was then expounded and practiced by the same rishis, who were the propagators of the Vedic civilisation in India.
Life (ayu) is the combination (samyoga) of body, senses, mind and reincarnating soul. Ayurveda is the most sacred science of life, beneficial to humans both in this world and the world beyond.
— Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana, 1.42-43
This time-tested holistic medical system maintains that good health exists when the body, mind, soul and nature are in perfect harmony.
In the postmodern age, the popularity of the vibrant tradition of Ayurveda lies in its subtle yet scientific approach to healing a person in their totality.
The knowledge consists of three aspects known as the ‘Tri-Sutras of Ayurveda’, which are:- aetiology or the science of the causes of disease, symptomatology or the study and interpretation of symptoms, and medication and herbal remedies.
According to Ayurveda, the human body is composed of three fundamental elements or ‘tridoshas’ namely:
- "DOSHAS" which represent the physio-chemical and physiological activities of the body
- "DHATUS" denote the materials entering the formation of a basic structure of the body cell, to perform basic actions
- "MALAS" are the substances that are partly used in the body and partly excreted in another form after serving their physiological activities
Proper balance of these three 'irreducible principles' at work, in the human body is essential for healthy living.
There are three kinds of doshas: 'Vata', 'Pitta' and 'Kapha'. They are not necessarily equal and similar in all people. Food habits and lifestyle, can be adjusted according to the body type to maintain perfect health.
Ayushya brings you authentic Ayurveda that is based on these very principles of life, focusing on holistic healing and wellness, using the goodness of nature to stay hale and healthy.
